Volunteer Duties
As a volunteer, you'll be paired one-on-one with a young student interested in learning more about engineering. For workshops, the girls will be between 9 and 13 years old and you may be paired with two girls depending on how many sign up for each workshop. For the mentor program, you'll be paired with one student who has similar interests to your major. We also try to pair you with students who have similar hobbies and extra-curricular interests. You'll answer any questions they have about engineering and help them through building whichever kit has been selected for that specific workshop. For more information on what kind of kits we use, look at the "Kit Info" page under the "Workshops" tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be an engineer? No. Any NCSU student (undergraduate and graduate too!) with an interest in STEM and inclusivity in the field is welcome to join!
What kind of time commitment is it?In the fall semester we hold around one workshop per month that lasts from around 9 am till noon. In the spring, we hold our mentor program for three weekends in a row from around 10 am to 1 pm each day. If you participate in the mentor program, you are required to attend all three Saturdays. You do not have to participate in every workshop or the mentor program, but we encourage you to sign up for as much as you can!

Do I have to be a girl to join? Not at all! We accept any student that supports our mission of a more inclusive STEM field.
Is there a cost to join?Because our workshops are free to participants, we do ask each volunteer to pay dues which help cover the cost of workshops. Dues also include a t-shirt and sticker.
